Content is King. People are fed up with companies shoving products and services in front of their faces all the time. We skip TV ads, change the channel the moment radio ads come on, overlook much direct advertising, and often avoid clicking banner ads on the internet. This has caused companies to devise a new strategy to win over customers – content marketing. Content marketing is essentially creating and providing valuable, informative content to change or enhance customer’s attitudes towards the company. People do not want to be sold to these days, they want experiences and the opportunity to join in on lifestyles.

Refresh your notary knowledge and get answers to your questions by attending a Secretary of State sponsored seminar for current and future notaries public. The free seminar is a thorough examination of notary basics: what a notary is, responsibilities and liabilities, how to notarize, notary certificates, and maintaining the notary journal. This is your chance to talk with a representative of the state agency that regulates notaries, and to participate in lively discussions about notary procedures, best practices and regulation.

The Secretary of State also offers advanced classes. Advanced notary public seminars are appropriate for those who are experienced, commissioned notaries. They do not meet the training qualifications for a notary application and will not help you to pass the exam. These advanced classes discuss employee notary issues, notario and elder abuse fraud, difficult certificates, and journaling witnesses, among other topics.

Cyber criminals can steal data from anywhere, and as bigger targets have improved security measures small businesses are falling victim to these attacks. Under a new Oregon law, small businesses have new liabilities and responsibilities if customer data is compromised.
Unfortunately, most small businesses have little to no idea how vulnerable their company is to cyber attacks. We have heard it all – from ransomware, to phishing emails, to security breaches. These attacks are costly, and few small businesses are ready for the worst.
Through the Cyber Oregon initiative, small businesses can receive cybersecurity advising and training to minimize these threats. As part of our partnership with the Oregon Center for Cybersecurity at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC), small businesses have the opportunity to work with a cybersecurity student to help address their security needs. In addition, our team works with many security providers that help advise, guide, and recommend next steps for security needs.
